In Mark 3:29 Jesus says,
Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.
Because of that, people often say,
Isn’t our God an amazing God who forgives us of all sins save one. Do not blaspheme the holy spirit. Praise God!!!
But then we must ask ourselves, “What does it mean to blaspheme the Holy Spirit?”
The Holy Spirit, in this context, is that set apart spirit, that set apart nature of being a follower of Christ. What is that set apart nature? What does it mean to be a Christian, to be an Anointed One, and to be Reborn in The Spirit and live by the Spirit?
To be Reborn and be Filled with The Holy Spirit, to be Christian, an Anointed One, is to take up our cross and follow Him; to give all we have, to become a servant to all, to lay down our lives for others, and to house the homeless, feed the hungry, to visit the sick and the prisoner, to treat the least amongst us as we would Him. To not hesitate to do these things, because the one who hesitates shall not enter into His Kingdom.
If that is what it means to be Born Again and live in The Spirit; then to Blaspheme the spirit is to not do those things. We are called to become the Body of Christ, his hands and feet on earth blessing the poor and standing up for justice, if we do not become that, then we blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
